The Aberlour A'bunadh stands as a testament to traditional Scottish whisky-making. This remarkable expression, whose name translates to 'original' in Gaelic, is a masterful marriage of whiskies aged 5 to 25 years in Oloroso sherry butts and bottled at natural cask strength without chill filtration. It reveals a clear, deep coppery amber appearance adorned with bronze glints. The nose opens with toasty oak, acorn shells and blackened fruitcake, while water coaxes out rich dried fruits reminiscent of sweet raisins, accompanied by cinnamon, sherry, toasty/lightly burnt malt, and sherry-infused chocolate orange. On the palate, it presents itself as sweet, fruity, and monumentally bold in every dimension - water tames its intensity while amplifying notes of raisins, prune fruit, and Christmas cake, complemented by toasty coconut, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg spice.
