Ardbeg
Tasting Notes
Ardbeg's 13 Year Old Anthology - The Harpy's Tale is a unique and captivating whisky that transports you to the mystical realm of Islay. The nose greets you with a symphony of aromas, including a distinctive oiliness reminiscent of extra virgin olive oil, sweet briar wood, aromatic herbs like coriander and sage, and a tantalizing hint of smoked lemon peel. As you add a splash of water, the whisky unveils a linseed oil-like oiliness, a gentle waxiness, and a burst of perfumed, aromatic carbolic soap, culminating in a whiff of crème brulee. On the palate, a soft, oily, mouthcoating texture gives way to a rich, sweet, smoky flavor profile, with hints of oak moss, treacle, aniseed lozenges, and a lovely, sweet, woody/balsamic note. This is followed by the delightful taste of smoked apricots and eucalyptus oil. The finish lingers with a sweet/smoky aftertaste, complemented by cumin, cardamom, and the faintest hint of coconut, leaving a lasting impression on the senses.
