Tasting Notes
The Four Elements - Water Release No. 4 represents a fascinating exploration of water's crucial role in whisky-making, drawn from a single ex-bourbon cask (No. 518) that yielded just 271 bottles. This London single malt, crafted using mineral-rich Thames water, demonstrates how the capital's unique water source influences their distinctive long, high-ester fermentations. Bottled at 52.1% ABV, this expression was specifically diluted to showcase how careful water addition can unlock hidden depths of flavor. The journey begins with a perfectly balanced nose where tropical pineapple chunks and mangoes dance with vibrant lemon, while toasted cereals, vanilla buttercream, and warming ginger provide a sophisticated foundation. On the palate, juicy fruits - pineapple, apple, and pear - interweave with smooth custard, vanilla pods, and toasted oak, all delicately dusted with cinnamon and ginger. The experience concludes with a prolonged finish where sweet fruitiness lingers harmoniously with gentle cinnamon spice, creating a dram that celebrates both the art of London whisky-making and the fundamental importance of water in crafting exceptional single malt.
