Bladnoch's Dragon Series II "The Spirit" is a Lowland single malt bottled at 48.3%. It's crafted from refill and first-fill bourbon casks, aiming for a balanced profile. The nose offers citrus and vanilla with hints of toffee and oak. The palate starts a bit spirity, then moves to toffee, oak, and green pear notes, with a touch of pepper and bitterness. The finish is spicy and warming, showcasing black pepper, oak, and red apple, with a drying linger of unripe pears. While some find it a pleasant, if not spectacular, sipper, be warned: it leans young and some tasters find it harsh and reminiscent of new make spirit, especially on the palate and finish. The price point might be a barrier, as the cask influence seems subtle for a special release.
