Cream of Kentucky Cask Strength is back, resurrected with a mashbill of corn, rye, and malt. Bottled at cask strength, it promises uncut flavor, but the experience is nuanced. Expect a nose of oak, baking spice, and jam cake leading to toffee, pepper, dark fruit, and tobacco on the palate. The finish is warm and lingering, but the overall impression is that of a younger bourbon, perhaps around five years old, lacking the complexity some might expect. It's a solid Kentucky bourbon, hinting at familiar flavors, but without the boldness of older releases. While Jim Rutledge's name adds prestige, the price tag might be a bit steep for what's in the bottle, try it at a bar first.
