Glasgow 1770 – Red Wine & Ruby Port Cask Finish
The Glasgow Distillery Co.
Tasting Notes
This limited edition single malt is a captivating blend of two distinct spirit styles that have undergone separate maturation processes. Initially, the peated single malt was aged in American white oak before finishing in red wine casks from Bordeaux, imparting rich flavors of boozy cherries, berries, and hints of Bakewell Tart with vanilla and almond notes, complemented by a touch of peat smoke and charred oak. The triple distilled single malt, on the other hand, spent time in bourbon casks before finishing in ruby Port casks, contributing flavors of poached stone fruits, ginger, and toasted marzipan, leading to bold, peppery spice and stewed tea notes. The marriage of these two expressions results in a bold and complex whisky with a dense tannic oak character, tobacco, and lingering red fruits, complemented by crackles of toasted pepper and nutmeg. Bottled without chill filtration or added color at a robust 57.5% ABV, this limited release of 1,925 bottles is a truly unique and flavorful experience.
