Glentauchers 12 Year Old 2009 - Big Brother (Na Bràithrean)
Glentauchers
Tasting Notes
The Glentauchers "Big Brother" by Na Bràithrean represents a fascinating experiment in whisky maturation, where a single ex-bourbon cask distilled on February 25th, 2009, was split to explore divergent aging paths. This particular expression, one of just 127 bottles, underwent 12 years of maturation including a final year of finishing in a Muscat wine cask before its bottling on August 16th, 2021. The whisky unfolds with an abundant nose of honeyed figs and juicy raisins mingling with fresh berries, while sweet toffee and orange peel notes dance with syrupy sweetness and warming cake spices. The palate presents an elegant marriage of floral blossom and sweet red berries, complemented by zesty orange, tangy oak, roasted nuts, and toasted malt. The journey concludes with an intricate finish where cherry notes emerge alongside sweet vanilla shortbread, bright citrus, and juicy stone fruits, all underpinned by a foundation of malty oak spice. This release demonstrates both the versatility of Glentauchers spirit and Na Bràithrean's innovative approach to whisky maturation.
