Hand Barrel Double Oak Bourbon, bottled at 105 proof, packs a punch! This Kentucky Straight Bourbon uses a double-oaked aging process, trying to coax complexity from its young two-year maturation. Expect a nose of caramel and buttered popcorn with a hint of cinnamon. The palate delivers more of the same – sweet caramel and popcorn – but be warned, the ethanol is prominent, drinking hotter than expected. The finish is short and spicy, leaving a fiery warmth. While some find enjoyable notes of coconut and baked apples, the double oak process seems to be working overtime to mask the underlying youth.
