Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 2 is a bold and indulgent whisky that captivates the senses from the get-go. The aroma is a delightful fusion of sticky sweetness and floral elegance, with notes of syrupy raisins, lavender, toffee apples, and lime marmalade dancing alongside hints of parma ham, black tea, red grapes, treacle, and wood spice. The palate is a velvety, viscous experience, offering flavors of blackcurrant cough drops, black pepper, chilli jam, spent matches, clove, and nutmeg. The finish is long and spicy, with a lingering presence of dark fruit. This whisky is a harmonious blend of single malt Scotch aged in refill bourbon, then expertly finished in a combination of Pedro Ximénez, oloroso, and whisky double matured in American oak and European oak STR barriques, allowing the Lochlea spirit to truly shine through. At a robust 60% ABV, this whisky is a testament to the art of cask strength expression.
