Tasting Notes

Reference Series I.3 is a whisky that tantalizes the senses from the very first whiff. The aroma is a delightful interplay of fragrant, almost soapy malt notes and a distinct menthol edge, reminiscent of the Jelly Tots from the original Reference Series I. Beneath this intriguing bouquet, one can detect hints of muscovado sugar and cooked apples lingering in the background. On the palate, the whisky unfolds with flavors of sourdough, sweet barley, and bread crusts, complemented by the dry, nutty essence of Sherry. The finish is light and crisp, leaving a lingering impression of apéritif wine, perhaps leaning more towards the subtle nuances of Lillet rather than the classic dry vermouth found in its predecessor. With the addition of spirit caramel (e150a), this whisky challenges the notion that artificial coloring leaves the flavor unaffected, inviting whisky enthusiasts to explore and draw their own conclusions.
