Tasting Notes
Springbank 22 Year Old (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) is a delightful whisky that takes you on a sensory journey. The nose is a symphony of aromas, with light smoke and ginger syrup leading the way, followed by the sweetness of thick, unctuous dates and burnt brown sugar. Dark red fruits, marmalade, and salted dark chocolate make an appearance, accompanied by treacle toffee, game meat, and oily walnuts. Dusty apples and a huge lick of liquorice emerge, reminiscent of an aged Pinot Noir. On the palate, roast chestnuts and mince pie fruitiness mingle with hickory, dark berries, cigar box, and softly smouldering peat. Tart citrus, cracked black pepper, and a hint of cough syrup add complexity, while touches of malt loaf, dried mushrooms, and bitter dark chocolate round out the flavors. The finish is full-bodied, with oak char and dried fruit lingering pleasantly.
