Stauning Smoke is a captivating Danish single malt whisky that defies the notion that peated whiskies are exclusively Scottish. Crafted from locally sourced ingredients and malted on open floors, this whisky embraces the essence of its surroundings. The kilns are fueled with peat and heather found in the nearby Ringkøbing Fjord landscape, imparting a delightfully complex and nuanced smokiness. Double-distilled in unique, small, flame-heated pot stills, Stauning Smoke undergoes a meticulous maturation process for five to six years in a harmonious blend of first-fill bourbon, Madeira, Jamaican rum, and Virgin American oak casks. The result is a captivating symphony of flavors, with aromas of smoked heather, cinder toffee, tobacco, vanilla, salted popcorn, cherry, stem ginger, and stewed apples. On the palate, it delights with notes of marmalade, dark chocolate, vanilla, bonfire smoke, malty biscuits, butterscotch, and honeyed cereals. The finish lingers with the comforting essence of freshly baked rye bread, spiced apple chutney, sweet peat, and a hint of tropical fruit.
