Tasting Notes

This 17-year-old Teaninich whisky from 1999 is a rare treat, as official bottlings from this distillery are nearly non-existent. The nose tantalizes with notes of vanilla, barley, and a pleasant waxy character, which unfolds into citrusy zest, orange jelly, melba toast, and melon when a splash of water is added. On the palate, it's a floral delight with orchard fruit flavors, stalky notes, lemon tea, and fizzy apple sweets. The finish is equally refreshing with fresh peach skin and gentle oak lingering on the tongue. The candied sweet spice character comes from the whisky maturing in a combination of refill American oak hogsheads and sherry butts. Interestingly, Teaninich employs an unusual mash filter press instead of a traditional mash tun, adding to the whisky's unique character.
