This Teeling Dark Porter whiskey is a delightful collaboration between the Irish whiskey makers and a local Dublin brewery, Dot Brew. The whiskey starts as Teeling's signature Small Batch blend, which is then finished in casks that previously held Dot Brew's rich, chocolatey dark porter. But here's the twist – those porter casks were originally ex-rum casks from Central America, used by Teeling to marry their Small Batch whiskey. So, the porter absorbed those rum notes before imparting its own deep, malty flavors onto the whiskey. The result is a wonderfully complex dram with layers of dark chocolate, treacle, vanilla, and hoppy malt on the nose, leading to a palate of burnt caramel, earthy coffee, baking spices, and hints of floral berries. The finish is where the magic really happens, with herbal, woody spice notes mingling with zesty orange peel and lingering notes of hearty malt, sweet toffee, and cocoa.
