Yoichi Aromatic Yeast is a captivating Japanese single malt that takes you on a sensory journey. Crafted at the Yoichi distillery on the northern island of Hokkaido, this whisky is a peated expression that delights with its intriguing aromas and flavors. The nose greets you with a herbaceous, salty, and smoky peat presence, complemented by fruity notes of apple, pear, and melon, as well as floral hints of lily and carnation. As it opens up, milky and exotic nuances of cream, coconut, pineapple, and kiwi emerge, along with a medicinal touch of ointment and Arnica. The palate is firm and lively, echoing the herbaceous, salty, and smoky characteristics while introducing a field of barley swept by sea spray. The earthy mid-palate delivers a bold peat punch, while the floral and fruity notes of tulip, cyclamen, plum, and greengage add a rustic and marine-like elegance. The finish is long and crisp, inviting you to savor the taste of fresh white grapes, plum, and pulp, with a delicate veil of licorice lingering on the taste buds, and translucent wisps of smoke wafting from the empty glass.
